CAPE TOWN. Today the Cape Town Electronic Music Festival released a limited supply of early bird full weekend passes to mark the opening of the 2016 edition of the festival to be held at Cape Town’s City Hall from 5th – 7th February 2016.
CTEMF 2016 will expand its world-class sound and production from two to three stages; festival goers can expect the same heavy hitting line-ups and soaring atmosphere that lured thousands to the grand spaces of City Hall in 2015.
South Africa’s music community is vast, rich and home to staggering variety and the CTEMF offers a rare occasion for its different sects to come together under one roof. International pioneers and innovators share the stage with the hottest emerging acts and globetrotting titans of the South African scene.
Now in it’s fifth year, CTEMF was established as a platform to celebrate South Africa’s thriving electronic music culture and industry. The festival has fast-gained international recognition for being one of the most relevant and forward-thinking events on Africa’s music festival calendar.
Each year a 3-day inclusive, workshop programme rolls out ahead of the core music festival. Free and open to all, the workshops explore the many different facets of this rapidly growing industry from the inside out.
The workshops aim to stimulate the growth of electronic music culture in an informative, participatory and responsible way while the festival’s carefully curated daily line-ups strive to be a comprehensive and evolving representation of South Africa’s thriving, diverse electronic music scene.

For over 15 years South Africa's electronic music scene has been confined to the shadows of the greater global scene at large.
The CTEMF has single handedly established the local scene on the international stage. From a genuinely 'underground' starting point, it has been slowly growing and has finally earned its rightful place alongside the dance capitals of the world, beautifully illustrated by South Africa being awarded Dance Nation of the Year 2015 at the recent International DJ Awards ceremony.
The Cape Town Electronic Music Festival (CTEMF) is the celebration of a scene coming of age. It marks the point at which the electronic music scene in South Africa has been globally recognized as an industry that has attaihed the state of being self-sustainable.
The CTEMF is not about how many feet pass through the door, nor booking the biggest acts to ensure radio play or getting as many 'likes' on Facebook as possible. It's about communicating the ethos, passion and musical creativity that has driven the scene from its early days to its current position as a global player in the world of electronic music.
